Why can water molecules store energy in more ways than neon atoms?

Neon is a noble gas, it is monoatomic in nature, this implies that it has only one atom present.

If we compare neon with water, water has three atoms present, two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. These atoms are linked by chemical bonds. Energy is stored in each of these chemical bonds.

Hence water stores more energy than neon because it is polyatomic and contains chemical bonds.

In addition to the fact that both hydrogen atoms are attached to an oxygen atom through a covalent bond and that it requires a large amount of energy to separate the water molecules, each water molecule can  potentially form 4 hydrogen bonds with each other  so many water molecules giving rise to a structure responsible for its physico-chemical properties.

Which makes it more complex and requires more energy to separate the water molecules.

this reaction is of the spontaneous decomposition of hydrogen peroxide down into water and oxygen.

add 2 molecules of hydrogen peroxide and 2 molecules of water. since oxygen is naturally diatomic, the total number of atoms of each element is now the same on both sides of the equation so it is balanced.
