Our discussions will take a high-level, strategic view of analytics. Please carefully read the book Competing on Analytics (by Davenport and Harris) before completing each discussion assignment. Our first discussion will focus on Chapters 8 & 9 from the book. After reading the chapters, please reflect and address the following questions below (Word Count: 500-600). Comments and replies to your fellow classmates are highly encouraged. The format of the last set of discussions will again be slightly different: Please take a particularly careful look at the last chapter (Ch.9) on the "Future of Analytical Competition." That chapter describes some new trends and up-and-coming technologies for business analytics. I would like you to focus on two of them: Visual analytics, and Text mining In particular, I would like you to address the following questions: 1. What are these up-and-coming technologies? How do they work? 2. What value do they provide to businesses? 3. Which businesses already use these technologies and how do they use it? 4. What insight do these technologies provide that other analytical tools cannot address?
