Jasmine and Wyatt have been friends since high school. As it happened, they both went to the same college. Wyatt was a very bright but lazy student. He often waited until the last minute to do assignments. Jasmine was a well-focused and organized student. Wyatt took advantage of their friendship to get her to help him after he procrastinated and did not have time to finish assignments on his own. This occurred despite them both knowing that they were skirting the edges of academic misconduct. Jasmine was concerned about the ethics of helping him, but valued the duty created but close friendship. After college they lost touch when Jasmine moved to a new city to take a job. Wyatt ended up changing his ways and returned to school to earn a graduate degree. He now works as an assistant manager of a large IT department at a major corporation. Jasmine has not done as well in her career and ended up in a dead-end job. Due to boredom she began to slack off and was recently laid off when the company faced an economic downturn. At recent interview, she learned that Wyatt was one of the company’s managers. She doubts on her record alone she could get the job. Jasmine decides to tell the interviewer that Wyatt knows her very well and vouch for her work skills. When Wyatt receives an email form the interviewer asking him verify Jasmines working skills, he is confused. He knew her to be a good student and a great friend. However, Wyatt had no idea about her post college activities or work skills. It was clear that his recommendation would secure Jasmine the job. The possibility of working with her and possibly restarting their close friendship that he had once hoped would turn romantic, intrigued him. He believes that it is one of his duties as a manager to deal fairly with the company. On the other hand, he remembers how much she helped in in college and wonders if in fact he has other duties to consider.
