What is the integration of the markets, technology, and resources between the economies of nation?

The integration between technology and resources is very strong and I know the most about this from mining. For example, if the hydroelectric technology was not in place in the mid-1950's in British Columbia, Canada, then open pit mining could not have taken place at least not with electric shovels. Also, a relatively new technology is the use of GPS to download a drill pattern for blastholes for the open pit drills and blasting patterns. In the old days, the surveyors would have to physically stake each hole in the field for the drill operator. Now it can all be done on the computer screen, using a downloaded pattern and with the operator using a joystick to manoevre the drill over the correct hole and with the hole specifications indicated ie depth etc.
