How can a story told in chronological order build suspense?

As the story follows a plot diagram from the exposition, rising action to the climax problems are introduced and situations get worse until the story reaches the climax when something attention grabbing or interesting happens. After the climax the story starts to go to the falling action and conclusion where the problems are started to be solved and the story ends with a lesson or happy ending.
