Europeans first arrived in latin america during which time period?

The first (known) European to arrive in Latin America (which wasn't "Latin" yet- it  only became "Latin" under the influence of Spain and Portugal later) was Christopher Columbus in 1493- in 15th Century. It was also the Era of Discovery (this describes period rather than the exact time)

Africans learned what the europeans wanted them to learn. instead of learning about african history and current information that could and would them they learned solely what europe wanted them to. and not everyone received the same education, some received better and others none.
