The Nazca and the South American plate shares a convergent type of plate boundary. The Nazca plate (oceanic plate) is a part of the larger Pacific plate towards its eastern side, that collides with the South American plate (continental plate), as a result of which the Nazca plate being denser sinks below the South American plate.
