To what extent has the us role in global affairs changed since the end of the cold war

During the cold war, all of US global affair always an effort to spread the power of communism (i.e : Our involvement in the vietnam war)
Since the end of cold war, now the US seem more focus to deal with real lifes world's problems, such as hunger, terrorism, discrimination , etc.
