All Hallow's Eve was the original Halloween. It was, like the day of the dead, a celebration of those who are already dead. Some believed that the spirit world was closest to us on this day, which led to many ideas on "witches". You were supposed to dress up as ghosts, daemons, and other otherworldy creatures to protect yourself. Then the candy companies wanted to take advantage and said that "halloween was nothing without candy". This is what would lead to today's Halloween. the celebration of candy and costumes.
