C. “What information is available to me from this time period?” or it could be D. “Is the author of this source reliable?” but i would go with D because if the author isn't reliable then it wouldn't be a reliable source.

I would say the answer is most likely B. I mean if the author is not 100 percent reliable then that doesn't mean that he wont have a few key points that are right. If the source addresses the question is the real question because some sources aren't valid for your paper. Like if you were writing a paper on the fall of the Berlin wall would you really want a source that describes how the Berlin wall looked before it collapsed. NO! So you have to ask yourself if the source is right for you or not. If it doesn't address your main idea then you need a new source.
