I would definitely use substitution. The ys are all by themselves on the left. Substitution is the easiest way to go.

y = 7x - 8

y = 5x - 2 Since the left sides are the same you can equate the 2 right sides.

7x - 8 = 5x - 2 Subtract 5x from both sides.

7x - 5x - 8 = - 2

2x - 8 = - 2 Add 8 to both sides.

2x = -2 + 8

2x = 6

x = 6/2

x = 3

Now find y

You can use either equation.

y = 5x - 2

y = 5*3 - 2

y = 15 - 2

y = 13

The point of graphing the two equations is to show that the graph agrees with the algebra. When you graph these two the equations should meet at (3,13)
