Lots of points pls becky wants to fence in a rectangular play area for her dog. if she has 82 feet of fencing and wants the length of the play area to be 9 feet longer than its width, what should the dimensions of the play area be?

the equations are:

2(x+y)=82, because 82 would the the perimeter which is 2(l+w)

x=y+9

Now use substitution and you'll get y=16. Then plug in 16 and you'll get x=25. so the length is 25 and the width is 16.

Therefore the dimensions would  be 25 by 16. Notice that the length, 25, is 9 greater than the width, 16. Also notice that a perimeter of a rectangle with length 25 and width 16 is 82 ( 2(25+16)=2(41) = 82))
