A baseball team plays in a stadium that holds 70000 spectators. With the ticket price at $10 the average attendence has been 28000. When the price dropped to $8, the average attendence rose to 35000. Assume
that attendence is linearly related to ticket price.
Hint: Get the linear equation that relates ticket price, x, to average attendance, y. You will have an
equation in the form y = mx + b.
Then, since Revenue = Price x Number of tickets sold, you multiply that equation by x to get y = mx2 + bx
What ticket price would maximize revenue?

Suppose that 3% of all athletes are using the endurance-enhancing hormone epo (you should be able to simply compute the percentage of all athletes that are not using epo). for our purposes, a “positive” test result is one that indicates presence of epo in an athlete’s bloodstream. the probability of a positive result, given the presence of epo is .99. the probability of a negative result, when epo is not present, is .90. what is the probability that a randomly selected athlete tests positive for epo? 0.0297
