An experiment is conducted to determine how the boiling point of water is altered by adding incremental amounts of sucrose to a volume of water. Students, using a Bunsen burner, first measure the boiling point of 100 mL pure distilled water to use as their control. Then they add sucrose, in 10 gram increments until they reach 100 grams, to 100 mL of water. The solutions are heated and the boiling point at each incremental addition of sucrose is recorded.
