Healthcare professionals often work rotating shifts. why is this problematic? what can be done to deal with potential problems?

The healthcare system has a lot of issues with it, and especially when it comes to how it treats its professionals.

One such issues is how professionals on this field do not enjoy the same benefits that other professions have, while being the field where human life, wellness and health are taken care of. Probably two of the biggest problems faced by healthcare professionals are: overwork, and rotation and lack of stability when it comes to number of hours and shifts. As such, many of these people do not enjoy a stable work schedule, with a standard and continuous time at work, but rather, a rotating one, that answers to the needs of institutions, rather than taking into account the welfare of their workers.

The subject of rotation is problematic because professionals in the field of healthcare cannot find stability in regards to their working hours, and time at work. While one week they may work during the daytime, the following week they may be working the nightsfhift, weekends, and such. This limits a professional´s wellbeing because aside from the overwork, they cannot have free time to do other endeavours, and many fall sick, or grow depressed due to this.

One way to deal with this is to standardize shifts by forcing institutions to ensure they have enough numbers of workers so that they do not need to rotate their personnel to meet their needs. Like this, there are other options, but I think that is the most necessary.
