It is important to promote awareness and understanding of human rights among communities in order for people to recognize violations and agree on standards of behavior in the family, school and, community.

Educating people on Human Rights help develop the KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and VALUES to help construct a universal human rights culture.  In other words, the community should be aware and capable of standing up for human rights. Human rights education can move people from understanding human rights concepts to examining their experiences from a human rights perspective and incorporating these concepts into their personal decision-making processes.

Some of the skills developed and necessary for the defense of human rights are: - Active listening and communication: listen to different points of view to advocate one's own rights and those of other people; Critical thinking: recognize forms of manipulation, and making decisions on the basis of reasoned judgment; The ability to work cooperatively and to act towards the defense of our own and others’ rights.
