It can be said that a positive side can be that individuals have a self-image where they show deep relationships and commitment to the rest of society. An example can be a cohesive and centred culture that developed in China for millennia and preserved a deep sense of unity and proud.

Ethnocentrism generally has a negative use, since many social problems are caused by the ethnocentric view. These problems often involve wars or violence among groups from different social and cultural backgrounds.

The worst side of this occurred when many Europeans (like Germany or Italy) felt superior and national socialist and radical movements seeking to revindicate geopolitical distributions of lands and quickly turned into practices like the Holocaust.

During that time many people were seen just as inferior or irrelevant and no longer recognized their human essence.
