Homer throughout the story, especially in the beginning, continuously brings up his homeland. "So nothing is as sweet as a man's own country, his own parents, even though he's settled down in some luxurious house, off in a foreign land and far from those who bore him". This shows his commitment to his homeland. He has a deep love for his family, and wants to remain close to his homeland for his family. He shows bravery along his whole journey, from leaving his home to encountering a Cyclops. "The monster wrenched the spike from his eye and out it came with a red geyser of blood". He stands up to the giant, not only tricking it, but stabbing it. This shows his bravery in the face of challenges.
