However, this was a very scarce opportunity, since it was very difficult to find these riches and there were many individuals in the same search. This difficulty became even worse with the risk of contagion by diseases such as typhoid fever and the cholera that was common among people. In the name of wealth, people went through unavailability of food, water, shelter and security, without even knowing whether they would be able to find something of value, which made the gold rush not worthwhile.
