Sociologist Charles Cooley argues that the perceptions of others are taking place in people's minds when he developed the concept of the looking-glass self.

There are two perceptions that a person thinks that is associated in the theory of looking-glass self. First, we people often imagine how we look to others.  This can be supported whenever we look at our self in the mirror.  We wanted to see how we look to others by checking through the mirror. Second, we imagine how people in our surroundings judge as by our appearance that we often think about evaluating whether to enhanced or to diminished our self-concept.
