Written by Connie Davis

Salt Lake City – The University of Utah will host a 7-day science camp for local middle schoolers. Students from across Salt Lake City were chosen by lottery to attend the camp which will focus on promoting science and technology.

As part of the 7-day science camp, students will participate in courses taught by University of Utah faculty and take field trips to local science attractions. “I’m excited to get to take a real college course,” says Annabel Johns, an eighth-grader who is attending the camp for the first time. Students like Annabel will also be living in university dorms, eating in the dining halls, and interacting with volunteers from the university during their 7-day stay.

“We wanted this to be a program where kids can get away from home, focus on science and begin to experience college life,” said the program’s founder, Erica Roberts, a professor of Biology. Roberts founded the program 10 years ago and has seen hundreds of students go through the camp.

The camp runs from June 17 through June 24. Students must pay $150 to attend.
