One reason that recent immigrants held in prisons did not have much sympathy from the general population was the common belief that they were and inferior.

I believe the answer is violent and Intellectually inferior.
This perception fail to consider the fact that more minorities belonged in a lower economic bracket.
Because of the hardship that they had to face in order to fulfill their daily needs, they're much more likely to committ a crime compared to those who are economically comfortable.
