How might malaysia and singapore serve as examples of how to resolve ethnic conflict in the nations that make up the former yugoslavia?

Both Singapore and Malaysia are highly diverse communities with different nationalities, cultures, traditions, ethnicity and languages living side by side without any internal conflicts.

Internal conflicts can totally destroy a country and communities for a whole generation, as was seen in Eastern Europe in the Post Soviet Era.

However, what many countries can learn from Singapore and Malaysia is how both countries have some very powerful rules and laws to ensure their are no tensions within the community.

1. All major languages are taught in schools: Language was a big part in the rift between East Pakistan and West Pakistan and even between the Serbs and the Slovaks in Eastern Europe.

2. Political Representation: All major ethnicity in a country should have proper political representation in the parliament. 

3. Equal Economic Opportunities: Everyone should be able to take part in equal economic growth. No one should be left behind. In many cases, there were clear bias among different communities which led to political problems in the future
