A school district is building a new school and is very concerned about building in an ecologically responsible way. The city has 100,000
forested acres on the edge of the city which includes the proposed site for
the new school. The school
will use natural gas as its heating source, and it
expects to use 2.5 x 106 cubic feet per year. Each cubic foot of natural gas
produces 117.10 lb of CO2 when burned. An average forest can sequester 1760
Ib per acre of CO2 per year.
