Explanation:

1. A menhir is a term referring to prehistoric human-made monuments. The word comes from the Breton language and means long stone. Menhirs usually consist of  a single stone, placed vertically, but this is not a rule. They date back to the Bronze Age and can be found in Europe, Asia and Africa, with a more domineering appearance on the European grounds.

2. Nabta Playa is a site in the Numibian desert, Egypt. It is said to be one of the earliest astrological sites, dating from 7500 BC. The site was once a not-so-dry location as it endured several humid periods offering water to the people that populated it. Some of the monuments that can be found are thought to represent solar and stellar alignments.

3. Venus of Willendorf is a small limestone figurine dating all the way back to the Old Stone Age. It represents a feminine figure although it is not very detailed. Nevertheless some of its features are overemphasized such as her breasts and her large stomach. Therefore, it could be interpreted as a maternal figure, a fertility image of a mother-goddess.

4. Passage tombs represent burial chambers that are reached through a narrow stone built passage. When it comes to burial chambers, there can be either one or more of them, and they can be covered in earthen mound or stones. They are believed to date from the Neolithic Age. For most of them there is not sufficient proof they were used for burial purposes.

5. Newgrange is a Neolithic monument built in Ireland in 3200 BC. It is an immense passage tomb consisting of a circular mound and stone passages leading to three small, and one central chamber. The inside of the Newgrange is decorated in megalithic art, such as stone carvings. The site is believed to have had ritual value.

6. Portal tombs were early Neolithic constructions who purpose remains unknown to date. They were made of several stone blocks placed under a large capstone forming a table-like construction. Portal tombs were also covered in earthen mound which wore off, leaving behind the tombs' persistent stone structure. Portal tombs are also known by the name of dolmens.
