The broadway and hollywood choreographer is best remembered for infusing his/her dances with a sense of athleticism… in 1942, he/she joined what is now the american ballet theatre and was a featured solo dancer in several works, including leonard bernstein’s fancy free (choreographed by jerome robbins) in 1946. he/she made their broadway debut in 1947 as the choreographer of finian’s ranibow, choreographed and/or directed over seventeen other broadway musicals, including guys and dolls and can-can. film credits include seven brides for seven brothers and hello, dolly! his/her work earned a total of five tony awards and an honorary academy award in 1997.
