Question 2: In 586 BCE, the Neo-Babylonian empire destroyed Jerusalem, the capital city of the kingdom of Judah
An obvious explanation for this event is that Judah resisted Babylonian rule, despite the fact that Babylonia was far
more powerful that Judah. This straightforward explanation is not the one we find in the Hebrew Bible. Why do you
think the Deuteronomistic Historian developed his particular explanation for the fall of Jerusalem? (For his
explanation, see eg 2 Kings 22:16-17: 24:3-4 19-20; 25:24 27-30. Remember, I'm looking for thoughtful
reflection on the problem, not any one "correct answer!)
