Reparation vs punishment. It is much better to have restorative justice rather than punishment for crimes that can be quantified as the first stage of correcting an offense. For crimes like theft, destruction of property, and other crimes in which the damage is undone, the restorative would alleviate the crime, to which other punishment can be added. A crime like murder cannot be addressed without punishment, nor can a restorative solution be applied.
