Influenced by French Post-Impressionist Georges Seurat, Matisse experimented briefly with the style of Pointillism to expand his knowledge of color relationships.
How can you practice color relationships?
Write your answer
At the age of 62, Matisse underwent abdominal surgery. No longer able to stand at an easel to paint, he began creating artworks that incorporated paper cutouts. He often worked from his bed or a chair, continuing to create great art until the day he died at age 84.
How can you overcome setbacks in school?

(This) painting initially was ordered as 'Harmony in Blue,' (where all of the background red paint was actually painted first in blue!) but Matisse was dissatisfied with the result, so he painted it over with his preferred red.
In his Paris studio with its windows looking out over a monastery garden, in 1908 Matisse created one of his most important works of the period 1908-1913. The artist himself called this a "decorative panel" and it was intended for the dining room in the Moscow mansion of the famous Russian collector Sergey Shchukin. (source: henrimatisse. org)
If you owned Harmony in Blue, do you think you would have given it back to Matisse to paint it red?
