Historically, why haven't houses been more important in the study of architecture?​

Architecture involves the design of buildings and various other structures. Smaller buildings are usually designed entirely by architects, while larger buildings are designed in collaboration with architects, who focus on aesthetics and general utility, and civil engineers who calculate load-bearing capacity and technical aspects. Architecture involves planning, designing and constructing shapes, spaces and landscapes based on ideas of usability, technology, society, the environment and aesthetics. In architecture, building materials, technology, light and shadows are treated and ordered in a creative way.

For all this complexity of the profession, and for the relative simplicity of design and construction that most private houses have, architecture as a science has not focused on houses to develop its innovations and theories.
