Van Gogh’s Starry Night: Post-Impressionism Vincent van Gogh painted what may be his most famous work, Starry Night, only about a year before he commited in 1890. Noted for its broad brushstrokes and vibrant colors, Starry Night has been reproduced millions of times in print and poster format. Van Gog first studied in Belgium, observing the work of Peter Paul Rubens. Van Gog was also strongly influenced by other painters such as Pizarro, Monet, and Gauguin. He adopted their use of bright colors and flowing lines.
Although his talent was clear after his death, Van Gog only sold one painting during his lifetime and died virtually penniless. It was not until after his death that his ability and creativity were celebrated all over the world.
Van Gogh’s art played an important part in the work of other artists. Artists such as Vitali Komarov, Lee Tiller, and Stefan Duncan all credit Van Gogh’s paintings as an inspiration for their own work.
