Renaissance means revival.  So this is the revival of the classical period of art.  The people were tired of the depressing Medieval period.  They were ready for something more uplifting.  "Renaissance man"  refers to a man who is really good at doing several things.  The greatest example being Michelangelo who was adept at painting, sculpture and architecture.  Visit the Vatican and see the results of his many years of work!

Explanation: Go back to the Neo-Classical artwork that you are studying and compare it to some Renaissance artwork.  You will see that there is more realism in the Renaissance work.  Also, you will see a lighter, more uplifting feel about Renaissance work.
