Assume you have inoculated a small number of bacterial cells into a supportive culture medium and incubated it while watching for an increase in numbers over time. you found that after a short period, the number of bacterial cells increased rapidly (exponentially). with time, growth slowed and eventually leveled off. how could you explain the leveling off with no additional increase in the bacterial number?
