Forensic photography is a field of forensic science, that involves the application of photographs in order to capture the scene of crime. This process captures those facts, which cannot be even observed on being a crime scene. Especially, photography of crime scene is done in order to utilize  photographs to prove or disprove facts related to crime. The photographs are captured from three distinct ranges. These includes :

1. The overview range: It captures the entire scene of crime from a distance.

2. Intermediate or mid-range: It captures the approximity or closeness of a physical evidence with it's surrounding. This can be used to relate the position of one object with respect to the other object or space.

3. Close range: It only captures the physical evidence or body of crime, in detailed view.
