The virus that causes chicken pox contains dna. it reproduces inside the cells of living organisms. the virus is not made of cells and does not eat or breathe. why isn't the virus considered to be a living thing?

The viruses do not belong to any kingdom and do not comprise any kind of cells. Thus, they are known as non-living. In supplementation, the viruses do not possess the features of life. It does not exhibit the tendency to react towards a stimulus. It cannot develop and grow.  

It cannot amend with the surrounding. The only way to reproduce is to do it inside a host cell, as they do not possess the tendency to reproduce autonomously.
