This imbalance in the fatty acids ratio has been associated with diseases such as cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases, diabetes and autoimmune disorders. So, scientist “created” transgenic pigs that produce omega-3 fatty acids, in order to improve heart function and help reduce the risks for heart disease.
