Talk about g+c content, its use for protein synthesis, importance, purpose, and future reasearch possibilities of it?

G+C content refers to the total amount of Guanine and Cytosine nitrogenous bases present in a certain DNA fragment or the DNA of complete cell.

There are three hydrogen bonds between Guanine and Cytosine as compared to two hydrogen bonds between Adenine and Thymine.

GC content of a specific DNA sequence can be calculated by using formula:

G+C/ A+T+G+C X 100

It is expressed in percentage form.

Future research possibilities:

Some attempts were made by scientists to classify the micro organisms and find evolutionary history on the basis of GC content. For example: Actinobacteria and Streptomyces coelicolor are classified as high GC content bacteria. This area has potential in future for better understanding and  classification of prokaryotes and Eukaryotes on the basis of GC content.
