On the basis of the theory of punctuated equilibrium, after the periods of stasis, new species evolve comparatively rapidly.

Till the organisms come across an evolutionary pressure, they are in a state of stasis. The evolutionary pressure leads to a brisk process of speciation. After the appearance of the species in the fossil records, the stability of the population takes place will little or no evolutionary change.
