stem cells have the extraordinary power to develop into several body cell types during early growth and development. (stem cell basics). stem cells are either embryonic: from a human fetus, or somatic: from an adult (stem cell basics).these cells can be used to rebuild body tissue, treat diseases, and even cure others. they can be more effective in treatment of illness than the common treatment, such as therapy or medication. stem cells are potentially more medically effective than traditional treatments.

stem cells can be used to treat a number of patients. vincent segers and richard lee stated in their article over cardiac cell research “these new findings have stimulated optimism that the progression of heart failure can be prevented or even reversed with cell-based therapy.” (segers). the two are referring to the ability of stem cells to develop into several types of cells present in the heart when they refer to “optimism”.   in j. mary murphy’s article over stem cell research and osteoarthritis, stem cell therapy in a caprine model of osteoarthritis, murphy states that “in cell-treated joints, there was evidence of marked regeneration of the medial meniscus, and implanted cells were detected in the newly formed tissue

stem cells are distinguished from other cell types by two important characteristics. first, they are specialized cells capable of renewing themselves through cell division, sometimes after long periods of inactivity. second, under certain physiologic or experimental conditions, they can be induced to become tissue- or organ-specific cells with special functions. in some organs, such as the gut and bone marrow, stem cells regularly divide to repair and replace worn out or damaged tissues. in other organs, however, such as the pancreas and the heart, stem cells only divide under special conditions.

although it might seem great for researchers to study stem cells and research on them cloning human embryos is not cool and i frankly disapprove.
