Acognitive neuroscientist surgically hooks an electrode up to the axon of a mechanoreceptor that sends its signals toward the brain. she is not sure what type of mechanoreceptor she attached the electrode to since she only attached it to the cell's axon and doesn't know what shape at the end of the cell (disk, corpuscle, her only clues are: first, the neuron is clearly buried deep in the skin, not near the surface; second, the neuron seems to activate when the person's finger moves around a surface but not much when she merely pokes the finger tip; third, when she moves the person's finger along the same surface for a few seconds, the neuron only fires briefly at the start of the movement and then fires again briefly when she stops the finger movement, but it doesn't consistently fire the whole time. what kind of mechanoreceptor is this neuron?
