What job are the nitrifying bacteria of the genus nitrosomonas doing?

Nitrifying bacteria such as Nitrosomonas play an important role in providing nitrogen to plants and limiting carbon dioxide fixation. They are found widely distributed in soil or water, where there are large amounts of ammonia, such as lakes or streams into which treated and untreated sewage is pumped.

First, the microorgaisms like bacterias plays roles in all the nitrogen transformation. There are found in the nodules of legumes, to fix the nitrogen. The bacteria changes the nitrogen into ammonium, then the ammonium changes into nitrates, the subtance that the plant can absorb.

So the bacteria is important for animals, and plants in all the Nitrogen Cycle.

It participate in fiation, nitrification, assimilation, ammonification and denitrification.
