The solar system and the Sun was formed about 4.5 billion years ago.The explosion of a supernova disturbed a cloud of gas and dust in space causes waves in space. This wave squeezed the cloud of gas and dust, and collapsed the cloud that started to spin. The gravity pulled the gas and dust together,  and solar nebula (a giant, rotating cloud of gas and dust) was formed which grew hotter and denser in the center. The surrounding disk of gas and dust was hot in the center. The solar nebula spun faster and faster, and flattened into a rotating disk. This disk got thinner and the particles started to combine together to form clumps, which created planets. Most of the gas was pulled toward the center,  where it became hot and dense, forming the Sun.
