The weight of an object , near the surface of the Earth is the gravitational force put on the object by the Earth. The law of universal gravitation states that with a gravitational force, all objects are attracted to one another like magnet. This gravitational force is however, proportional to the quantity of the objects and the distance between the objects.  

It should be noted that between the objects, the gravitational force increases when the quantity of an objects become larger. Also, the repulsive force between the objects decreases when the distance between two objects becomes large.
