Dendrites are relatively smaller in size than exons and have receptors for neurotransmitters on their surfaces. At the synapse, the receptors of dendrites of postsynaptic neurons serve as a binding site for neurotransmitters that carry the electrical impulses from the axon of the presynaptic neurons. The axons serve as information from the cell body towards the dendrites of other neurons. Therefore, dendrites serve as reception zone of a neuron.
