Cellular respiration is the complex process in which the cell respires or absorb oxygen and produces the energy molecules. The process oxidises the glucose substrate molecules and produces energy in the form of ATP molecules.

The process takes place in the four phases:  

1. Glycolysis: which breakdown the glucose molecule and produce pyruvate molecules

2. Pyruvate decarboxylation: removes the carbon dioxide from the pyruvate and form Acetyl-CoA.

3. Citric acid cycle- which utilises the Acetyl-CoA and produces reducing equivalents.

4. Electron transport chain: which use the energy of the equivalents and form the 24 ATP molecules.

This shows that the glucose breakdown complete during the Citric Acid cycle  and high ATP molecules are produced during the Electron transport chain.
