All cells undergo a regular cycle of normal activity combined with growth and development, preparation for division, and then division of the cell into two identical daughter cells. This process is called mitosis. In mitosis, a parent cell divides into two daughter cells and when these daughter cells mature, they divide again and so on. It only occurs in somatic cells or body cells. There are four phases through which a cell can pass and divide into two daughter cells. These phases are prophase, anaphase, metaphase and telophase. Without this division of cells, growth of organisms is not possible.
