there are 5 major types of chemical reaction.

1. combination reaction- in this type of reaction two or more reactants are needed to form the product. for example:- C2 (g) + 02(g) ---> CO2(g)

2. Decomposition reaction- in this type of reaction single reactant is broken down into simpler compounds. for example:- H20(l)> H(g) + O2(g)

3. Single displacement reaction- in this type of reaction the active metal displaces the lesser active metal in the chemical compound. for example:-

Zn(s) + CuSo4 (aq) ---> ZnSo4 (aq) + Cu(s)

4. Double displacement reaction- in this type of reaction both the species of ions are displaced. they are further divided into neutralization and precipitation reaction.

a)precipitation reaction- when an insoluble precipitate or product is formed during a double displacement reaction it is called precipitation reaction.

KCl (aq) + AgNO3(aq) ---> AgCl(s) + KNO3 (aq)

b) neutralization reaction- this is reaction between acid and base and the resultant product is a salt and molecules of water

H2So4 (aq) + NaOH(aq) ---> Na2So4 (aq) + H20

5. Combustion chemical reaction- in this type of reaction a compound consisting of carbon reacts with oxygen in air. commonly this reaction can also be called burning. redox reaction falls under combustion reaction

C3H8(g) + O2(g)---> CO2(g) + H20(l)

a) redox reaction- this type of reaction is called redox or reduction-oxidation reaction. electrons get exchanged in type of reaction

C(s) + O2(s)---> CO2(g)
