A gardener planted two different varieties of black-eyed pea in her garden, one with black seeds and the other with white seeds. She noticed that in the seeds of the F1 generation were mostly white. As an experiment, she deliberately pollinated the two varieties with the result that in the experimental F1, 100% were white. She cross-pollinated the F1 plants and got the following result:
Black seeded plants: 36
White seeded plants: 124
1. Use a chi-squared test to determine whether these results are consistent with the hypothesis that the white and black traits represent mendelian characters with white being dominant to black.
2. Does this result support the null hypothesis of simple dominance/recessiveness?
