How is our solar system organized?

The order of the planets in the solar system, starting nearest the sun and working outward is the following: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and then the possible Planet Nine. If you insist on including Pluto, it would come after Neptune on the list. Our solar system consists of one smallish star (the Sun), eight planets, a few billion asteroids and a few more billion comets. Add to that masses of dust and gas, and there you have it. Every time the asteroids tried to accrete they were ripped apart by Jupiter's enormous gravitational field.
