Absenteeism increases when an infectious disease, such as pink eye, begins to spread
through a school. The problem usually begins with a few sick students coming to the
clinic with red weepy eyes, but the situation can quickly escalate if preventative
measures are not taken. What is the best way for schools to decrease the spread of
illness among the students and staff?
Close school until no students are infected.
Encourage proper and consistent handwashing.
Vaccinate students against the pink eye bacteria.
Give all students a teaspoon of antibiotics.
